How do you date Henredon Furniture?
1. Look for the markings.
- There are numerous ways to date Henredon Furniture, but one of the easiest is to look for a marking that reads “Henredon Fine Furniture.” The “Fine Furniture” moniker was only used by Henredon from the 1950s until the 1970s.
- If you find a Henredon piece with the marking “Heritage Henredon” it is also likely from this same era. Heritage Henredon was a collaboration between Heredon and the furniture company Drexel-Heritage that lasted throughout much of the mid 20th century.
2. Note the wood used in construction.
- On a broader scale, any Henredon furniture featuring high-grade hardwoods, fine craftsmanship, and artisan accents (like parquet work) was likely manufactured between 1945—the year Henredon was founded—and the 1990s. In the 2000s Henredon was sold to a larger furniture family and most of its manufacturing was outsourced overseas, resulting in more mass-produced handiwork.
3. Look for collection name markings.
- Henredon often marked furniture with collection names which can easily be traced back to a specific year or decade.
