This pose symbolizes the entry of the awakened one into nirvana and corresponds to the cessation of the cycle of births (samsara). There, greed, hatred and illusion as conditions of the cycle die out, as does the thirst for existence. Burma (kaunbong period 1752-1885) or thailand (end of ayutthaya period 1351-1767). This image is particular in the treatment of the hands with slender fingers specific to the ayutthaya style although the shape of the face is more square, as in the u-thong statuary. The wide headband and the folds of the monastic robe are covered with ruby cabochons; these inclusions come more from burmese workshops. Provenance: estate of the collector and art dealer claude de marteau. Sold with certificate of provenance. L 107 cm x d 32 cm x h 32 cm approximately 25 kg less
