additional information:
sigmund oppenheim, a student of otto prutscher at the vienna school of applied arts around 1910, was influenced by viennese modernism and the principles of the wiener werkstätte. Prutscher (former student of prof. Josef hoffmann), himself a leading architect and designer, conveyed to him a clear, reduced formal language, high-quality materials and a close connection between aesthetics and functionality, which were reflected in oppenheim's furniture designs. His work combined perfect craftsmanship with simple elegance. As early as 1902, oppenheim demonstrated his skills by implementing a music salon based on plans by carl (karl) witzmann (student of prof. Josef hoffmann) for the international decorative arts exhibition in turin. His talent was also appreciated at the viennese imperial court: emperor franz joseph i personally honored one of his interiors at the austrian museum's winter exhibition and praised its outstanding quality.
oppenheim's works are characterized by a masterful combination of functionality, craftsmanship and timeless aesthetics, which made him an important representative of viennese modernism. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
