Outstanding iridescent pulled feather art glass Jack in the Pulpit vase by the renown glass artists at Orient & Flume.
The front features a beautiful and vibrant iridescent gold. The base, neck and back feature the intricate pulled feather method of art glass in greens, blues, gold and violet purple. Signed at the underside of the base, Orient and Flume, June 14th of the year 1979.
Orient and Flume began in 1973 in a coach house behind the residence at the corner of the avenues Orient and Flume in Chico, California by famed glass artist, Douglass Boyd. Through the years the house artists included, Bruce Sillars, Scott Beyers, Greg Held, Ed Alexander, Dave Smallhouse, and Mike Shaw amongst others.
Orient and Flume glass is always signed, and different systems have been used at various times to indicate quality. The base of an Orient and Flume piece typically carries the designers name, the studio name (in full or abbreviated) and the date plus company identification codes.
Glass from this studio is displayed in several major museums including the Smithsonian Museum, the Corning Glass Museum, the Metropolitan Museum, The Art Institute of Chicago amongst others.
From the company website:
Orient & Flume produces fine art glass for the collector. These signed pieces capture nature's inspiration in both iridescent and crystal clear glass.
Nationally acclaimed for its excellence in design since 1972, the glass of Orient & Flume utilizes both traditional and contemporary motifs and can be found in the permanent collections of the most prestigious museums in the world. less
