The composition depicts a solitary female figure on a sectional in contemporary yet ornate stylized room. She is lying face down with her strawberry blonde hair covering her face. Her legs are swung up and crossed in the air which highlights her trendy platform shoes. Sunlight from the left illuminates the dark space – a lovely evocation of light and shadow. McCormick takes inspiration from the American Realist painters at the turn of the 20th century such as Edward Hopper, John Sloan, and George Bellows. From a private collection in Metro Detroit who acquired the painting from Garelick’s Gallery. Original gallery tag on verso. Dimensions: 29.5”h x 35.5”w x 2.5”d (framed). In very good vintage condition.
