The history of glassblowing in Mexico began in the 16th century in Puebla, just east of Mexico City. The artisans who blew glass there were from Spain. In the 20th century, local glassblowers began adding decorations to their lead-free pieces which were more closely associated with classic Murano artisans than Mexico. In particular, Mexican glassblowers would wrap their drinkware from top to bottom with slender green, red, or amber spirals, pushing the handcrafted aesthetic beyond basic blue.

These are impressed on the bottom with the maker and country of origin at the pontil, where the glass is broken away from the rod.

Please note that as each sturdy piece is individually handmade, slight variations in the thick glass's shape, color and size with tiny bubbles are expected from the blowing process, making every item a unique example of blown glass craftsmanship. less
