He was an active participant in the Mexican Revolution for which he was put in prison. While he was incarcerated, he began painting on his cell wall. The mayor of the town saw and liked his paintings and ordered portraits of his two little girls. His career took off from there. Agapito changed his surname to Labios. He was self-taught, and painted mainly portraits in the primitive Mexican style. This painting is a whimsical portrait of a girl in a long dress with pantalets. A bird is perched on one hand and another is tucked into the folds of her dress. Above her drapes a garland with butterflies.

This painting is in original condition with wear consistent with age and use. Note the visible drips and spots of finish. Please see photographs for detail.
