The ceramic circular coasters have a gold ground with each plate having, in black and white in the center, a signature on a paper card and with a feather quill displayed.

Signatures include Leonardo, Galileo, Raphaello, Garibaldi, Benvenuto Cellini, Verdi and Pagannini.

Diameter: 4 1/8 inches x 1/4 inch height.

In 29th March 2016, a set of Seven made $1,375 at Christie's, NY.

The author writes that the coaster sets developed in the 1950s and 60s nearly always in sets of eight and rarely in sets of six, twelve and twenty four. Often a special pattern was developed for promotional purposes or wedding keepsakes. The Fornasetti archives contains seventy nine different patterns.
