This set includes 12 each of wine and water glasses, champagne cups (before the switch to flutes in the 80s), two tall and two small candlesticks, two pitchers, and two bottles with stoppers.
A total of 44 pieces set!
The stems are made of Zanfirico rods, representing the "Palo da Casada," the iconic blue white striped water poles of Venice. The cobalt blue color, popular in the 1980s, reflects a marine theme. The wine glasses have transparent cups to allow you to see the color of the wine.
La Filigrana, a company founded in Murano by Paolo Crepax in the late 1970s, was a leading glass and lighting producer in the 1980s. It was a strong competitor of Effetre and expanded rapidly, especially with marbleized glass for Missoni Home. However, when Missoni suddenly stopped glass production, La Filigrana couldn't adapt quickly and had to close. Paolo Crepax later pursued an artistic career, becoming known as a master of the Incalmo technique, with his recent asymmetrical works being highly regarded.
The Filigrana building, located next to the labs of Davide Salvatore and Lucio Bubacco, remains a reminder of the company's significance. It's unfortunate that such an important company couldn't survive.
Note: The listed dimensions are of the tallest stem glass.
