What is the difference between a wet bar and a dry bar?
Unlike a dry bar which is a piece of free-standing furniture that is used to store alcohol and other barware, a wet bar is a built-in fixture in a home consisting of a sink and countertop area that is used to assemble drinks.
Wet bars, a mainstay of 1970s-era homes, have fallen out of vogue over the years, while the dry bar has seen a resurgence in popularity as of late. Dry bars are often designed to look like a medium-high cabinet with single door closure. Occasionally, dry bars will be elaborately embellished, with high-end details like a rounded front, striking metal accents or inlays. Inside, dry bars have shelved storage for squirreling away spirit bottles and other barware necessities like shakers and jiggers. Many dry bars come equipped with hanging racks installed on their interior ceiling, ideal for hanging wine glasses and maximizing the bar’s interior space.
