What is the difference between a platform and a panel bed?
A panel bed is a bed that requires a box spring in order to support the mattress, while a platform bed is a bed that requires no box spring. Panel beds generally feature a more traditional design than platform beds, with headboards and footboards and more elevated frames. As a result of their elevated frames, panel beds are more likely to have storage space underneath them. Generally, if you are looking for historical-style beds, including Chippendale beds, Rococo beds, Victorian beds, and more they will feature panel bed construction. On the other end of the spectrum, platform beds are designed so that a mattress can be placed directly on their frame. Because no additional box spring is needed, platform beds are generally lower in profile than panel beds. They also assume more modern styles and tend to have no under-the-bed storage.
