What is the difference between a comforter and a blanket?
The main difference between a comforter and a blanket is that a comforter is that a blanket is a single-ply bed covering made of a material like wool or fleece, while a comforter is a three-ply bed covering composed of fluffy synthetic fibers or quilted between two textiles. Generally, comforters are meant to top a bed, while blankets are meant to reside under the top layer of a bed. Comforters are much softer and puffier (some might say “squishier”) than blankets. They are typically filled with down feathers or a synthetic down alternative of some sort. Comforter fillings can be adjusted in an effort to make a comforter more suitable for warm or cold weather. A comforter can also be slipped into a duvet cover to provide more protection and style, but generally, a comforter is ready to adorn the top of a bed as-is.
