What Is A Bench At The Foot Of A Bed Called?

Southampton Residence, Master Bedroom Featuring Custom Canopy Bed and upholstered waterfall bed bench

A bench nestled at the foot of a bed is often called a “footboard bench” or a “bed bench.” Footboard benches are intended to be placed at the foot of a bed and are commonly used for seating and storage. Similar to a settee, some bed benches are outfitted with a backrest and armrest. More often, however, bed benches are modest designs featuring only a seat and no backrest. These benches are often placed in bedrooms to provide a place to perch while dressing or putting on shoes, or as decorative pieces, sourced to add visual interest. These benches can also be used for storage, as many have a built-in shelf or drawers tucked under the seat.
