You all are decor-trend savvy. So it’s no news to you that the D.I.Y. movement promises to stick around- and why not? What’s not to love about giving new life to pieces past their prime or personalizing an old treasure?
But for those of us (picture me waving a hand frantically in the space above my head) who break out into a cold sweat when left to our own devices in an art supply store, there is a one-stop-shop you can hit to get all the supplies and the tutelage you need to become a crafting queen. Your spirit-guides on this journey through how-to heaven? Amanda Peppard and Corina Gomez.
Before these two joined forces in 2012 to open Suite Pieces in Brooklyn, Amanda had been running a D.I.Y shop in Huntington Station on Long Island and Corina was a vendor at the Brooklyn Flea. They then partnered up and opened a shared retail and workshop space. In the workshop, they teach decorative painting techniques using chalk paints and french gilding waxes and in the store, they sell a mix of vintage furniture (both refurbished and in original condition), decor, artwork and the tools and materials to D.I.Y. at home, should you dare.
Let’s get to know this inspirational pair and what defines their one-of-a-kind Brooklyn business.
