For a Pacific Heights penthouse overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz, designer Isolina Mallon curated a selection of Italian modernist furnishings that complement the contemporary style of the architecture and the vibrant colors of the client’s art collection. Near the bottom of the staircase, a plush Flexform sectional designed by Antonio Citterio grounds a comfortable seating area rich in natural light.

Several of the home's furnishings reference the 1960s', when the house was originally built. The supended light fixture from Nemo Lighting breaks up the space between the ceiling and white table with curved corners, from Rimadesio. The Hola Cassina chairs were designed by Hannes Wettstein. Bringing a burst of color to the space, the vibrant painting was created by Dutch artist Micha Tauber.

Here, a unique armchair from Poltrona Frau, upholstered in blue velvet, delivers subdued color. The sculptural sconce near the open landing is from Vibia, and the rug was custom-designed by Isolina Mallon Interiors and crafted by Scott Studio Group.

Facing the staircase, the pair of recliner chairs from Cassina were designed by Toshiyuki Kita, an industrial designer from Japan. The black-and white prints were created by Bay Area artist David Kelso, and the floor lamp is from Foscarini. The side table is from Flexform, and the rug was custom-designed by Mallon and made by Scott Studio Group. The vases are from David Weeks.

Featuring bold prints from David Kelso and a custom graphic rug made by Scott Studio Group, the upstairs home office merges with the contemporary theme of the downstairs living space. Mallon custom designed the sleek cabinetry, which was then built by Modulnova. The desk and swivel chair are from Alias.

To achieve privacy and regulate natural light, the black-out curtains from Création Baumann can be closed to surround the office, particularly when guests visit, when the Flexform sofa here can covert into a bed.

A peacock-colored accent wall, crafted by Wall&decò, juxtaposes with the steel frame of the Flexform bed designed by Citterio, as the wall's shades of blue and green also integrate with the colors of the custom rug. Black-out drapery from Création Baumann shields the space from morning light when necessary. The night stands are from Jesse, and the string lights are from Flos.

A metalized blue paint called Oios Ottocento Antico Velluto ushers in a deep, velvety tone in the master bath; the paint shines under the influence of light. The bath accessories here are from Kohler.

For the powder room, Mallon was inspired by saturated bathrooms of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA). The hue is Aniline Red from Benjamin Moore & Co.
