We’re back with a new guest tastemaker for some quick-fire questions and a mini-curation of some fab Chairish finds!
This week, we sat down – virtually of course – with R’el Dade + Marcus Lloyd, the duo behind the lifestyle blog This is the Place I Was Telling You About. This New-York based couple may consider themselves jacks of all trades – what with their backgrounds as models, content creators, and writers – but at this point it’s safe to say that they’ve mastered the art of lifestyle photography. Their swoonworthy snaps of eateries, vacation spots, and interiors are the stuff of dreams, and are guaranteed to provide you with inspiration for your much-needed post-lockdown vacations.
Read on to find out what they can’t wait to do once quarantine ends, and the key to their harmonious professional collaboration as a couple.

What’s helping you get through quarantine? What are you excited to do once it ends?
Marcus: Honestly, quarantine has given us the chance to slow down and have more intention. So I would say we’ve used quarantine as a chance to reset and have a sharper focus. But once it’s all over, I can’t wait to hop on a flight to visit another country.
R’el: A routine has kept some form of normalcy; Sometimes it’s workouts, game nights, or virtual happy hours with friends. But I agree with Marcus. we’re eager to travel internationally again.
What is the coolest vintage piece in your house?
We stumbled upon this really cool record player and speaker set at a flea market a few years ago, and it has added so much value to our home.
Who is your ultimate style icon?
Marcus: Not sure if I’ve ever had a style icon, but maybe it’s Pharrell.
R’el: I used to say I didn’t have a style icon, but while in quarantine I realized that the streets of New York inspire so much of my fashion. So I guess I could say the people of New York are my style icons.
What is the secret to your successful creative synergy?
Listen, listen, listen. Always listen to your partner and make sure they feel heard. Be kind and patient. Oh — and did we say, listen?
What is the key to getting the perfect photo?
Turn off those lights and use natural light. Find balance in your photos.
What have you been inspired to take photos of since quarantine began?
Originally it was documenting the times and how empty and deserted New York looked during March and April. Now we’ve been trying to shoot more videos on our road trips, and actually have video footage of this year. 2020 will go down in the books for us.
