Cheers to 2021! With 2020 at an end — yes, finally — we’re excited for what the new year will bring. We’ll all still be spending plenty of time at home, at least for awhile, but that doesn’t mean we can’t update and improve our spaces along the way. And during this transformational time, we’ve seen plenty of trends pop up that we think will color this new year and provide some fun ways to reinvigorate things on the domestic front. Below, browse the top trends we’re anticipating this year and raise a glass to new beginnings.

Celery Green
After the year that was 2020, we can all use some soothing, and that’s what shades like celery green are designed to do. Soft, calming colors create a home that’s a respite from the outside world, and that’s exactly the case with the proliferation of pieces in different hues of celery green.
Terracotta
Similarly, we’re loving all the new pieces in shades of terracotta, another natural, muted color that’s high on our wish list this year. Rather than an in-your-face red, expect to see more rose-infused terracotta shades in everything from wallpapers to rugs and even lighting.
Soft Touch
If there’s one thing we’ve all learned over the last year, it’s that comfort is probably the most essential element of home decor. That’s being reflected in the ultra-plush, soft furnishings we’ve been seeing. Look for a lot more bouclé, crushed velvet, shearling, and other uber-touchable, inviting fabrics in the future.
Geometry Class
Probably our most “futuristic” trend this year involves all the geometric shapes we’re noticing for elements throughout the entire home. Whether it’s a console with hard rectangular angles or a flowing chaise longue made of circular tube-like pieces pulled together, these quirky, eye-catching pieces truly do make math fun.
Game Night Essentials
It’s a cliché at this point to say we’re all spending more time at home, so… with that established as a well-known fact, we’ll mention that game tables and accessories have been flying off the virtual shelves at Chairish. We don’t expect that to stop any time soon, with vintage backgammon tables and chicly designed games in high demand.
Portraiture x Collage
One of the trends from our Fall Art Preview just a few months ago, “Portraiture x Collage” is all about mixing the art of traditional portraits with unexpected, mixed media elements. These creative, tongue-in-cheek pieces subvert the somewhat staid expectations of 19th-century portraiture to offer something entirely new.
The New Victorian
Speaking of things from the 19th century… we’re also loving a resurgence in classic Victorian motifs, with a modern, present-day twist. Embrace a layered, richly decorated look and beautiful detailing, as well as classic wood furniture, painted pieces, and a sense of traditional elegance in every room.
Two-Toned
No need to choose between two favorite colors when selecting furnishings for your home this year… we think you’ll be able to have both. Plenty of unique color combinations are catching our eye — within the same piece — including seating, accessories, and lighting, as well as charming ombre lampshades.

And finally, what would 2021 be without wanting it now, now, now? We’ve all become accustomed to quick delivery, and we at Chairish are happy to oblige.
