Based in Dallas, Texas, Shannon Bowers has been practicing design for twenty years and has been lending her eye and style guidance as an editor for Milieu Magazine for over a decade. She is steadily building a clientele of families who come to her for a unique attunement to the little things. One-of-a-kind pieces. Prints that mix beautifully but aren’t too perfectly matched. Environments where scale is carefully considered. For unexpected inspiration, explore Shannon’s subtly curated, coordinated interiors (plus her top Chairish picks).

What made you passionate about interior design? How’d you get your start?
Ten years of public education and the start of a family led me to a career pivot. What started as a one-woman shop out of my guest bedroom has become a full service design studio with a small but mighty team, twenty years later. Good design and great style are in my genes.
What do you find most compelling about Chairish?
Chairish offers a wide range of selections for any style and budget. The platform is easy to use and the customer service is outstanding.

How does sustainability factor into your design choices and love of vintage?
I place a high value on sourcing one-of-a-kind antique treasures for our clients. We search high and low for the perfect match for each open space in projects. Not only does that result in highly personalized and unique interiors but it equals instant sustainability.
Favorite way to create a statement-making moment in a room?
Scale, scale, scale. I learned early on that a large-scale piece can make a huge impact even in smaller spaces. I’m not afraid to mix scales but always start bold and BIG.

Do you have any go to color palettes and color combos?
Nature sets the tone. Green is gorgeous in any space and in every shade. Project context, architecture, client preferences and a nature study on-site are my starting points.

What advice do you have for first-time clients to make their space truly personal?
If you hire a designer and it is the right fit, trust them to listen intently and execute your shared vision. Remember that a space is made up of harmonious elements that a trained eye can curate and coordinate.
