We’re back with a new guest tastemaker for some quick-fire questions and a mini-curation of some fab Chairish finds!
This week we are joined by designer, Meta Coleman. Meta realized her love of interior design in an incredibly personal way: after building and designing her own Utah home 13 years ago! With a degree in photography, she had always gravitated towards creative, art-driven work but it was her own hands-on home overhaul that sealed the professional deal. For the past six years Meta has been transforming her clients’ interiors into warm, inviting spaces with serious flair for pairing rich textiles, natural finishes, and effortlessly cool gallery walls. We recently chatted with Meta to learn more about her binge watching habits, quirky style icon, and see her Chairish faves. Read below to meet this style star rising from the Beehive State!
Last show you binge watched?
I recently discovered the show The OA on Netflix. I know, where have I been? It is some of the most compelling captivating storytelling I’ve seen in a long time. I particularly love that Brit Marling, the main actress in the show and co-creator, was tired of being typecast so she wrote the stories she wanted to be in. I also really love a good quirky comedy and Derry Girls is pretty funny.
Coolest vintage piece in your house?
My enormous Josef Frank “Liljevalch” sofa. It’s no secret that I am a huge Josef Frank fan. His colorful designs are so timeless and still manage to be fresh and modern. Ever since I sat in the large comfortable sofa (designed in 1934) I knew I had to figure out a way to have it in my life somehow. Amazingly I found it at auction a few years ago and set my alarm for 5am to bid on it. The last 10 minutes of the auction were some of the most intense in my life! Amazingly, I won it! It was the best midlife crisis purchase I have ever made! Beats a sports car (in my opinion) any day.
Where’s next on your travel bucket list?
This is a tough one. I love to travel so much. I am dying to go to Italy, particularly Puglia. When I travel often times it is not very relaxing. I like to see and do a lot, but it would be so nice to just sit and relax on the beach and read a good book. Or nap!
Ultimate style icon?
Iris Apfel – she knows how to accessorize like no one else and mixes patterns and colors in such a bold and inspiring way. She has had a thriving textile business, designed for 9 presidents at the White House, and is still going strong as a style icon at 97 years old.
