We’re back with a new guest tastemaker for some quick-fire questions and a mini-curation of some fab Chairish finds!
This week, we are joined by Chicago-based lifestyle blogger Meg McMillin. Meg was working as a graphic designer and art director until around four years ago, when she had her first child. In an effort to stay at home with her son while maintaining a fulfilling creative outlet, she launched her blog, where she shares her favorite fashion, home, beauty, and baby finds. Like the writer she is, Meg has countless stories behind how she sourced the furniture and decor in her home. And quite a few of those stories involve an afternoon combing through Chairish!
Read on to find out which Chairish find inspired her to incorporate bright color into a room of her home, and the fortuitous way she acquired her dream Bauhaus chairs.
Your sense of style carries through to your fashion aesthetic and your home aesthetic. How did you develop your style and how would you describe it?
I would describe my style in both fashion and home as “Minimalistic with a bit of an edge.” I’ve always been drawn to neutrals and simplicity in every form of design, but I’m a bit of a rebel and like to make sure that whatever I’m wearing or putting in my home is still really unique and unexpected. Hence my leopard boucle dining chairs – which were of course found on Chairish!
What kind of design additions or changes have you recently made to your home?
I’m currently remodeling our screened-in porch, and having so much fun with it. My inspiration for the space was actually sparked by a piece of art I found on Chairish! It’s this vibrant, abstract little portrait of a woman that instantly made me want to do something colorful and tropical. My home is full of neutrals, so I was excited to have some fun with this room and do something totally different!
The green and white cement tile floors were inspired by Cecconi’s at the Soho House in Miami and I love how they turned out. Pretty much everything in that space is vintage. The rattan sofa is an old Ficks Reed piece that I found for close to nothing. It was in pretty bad shape, so my dad restored it for me. And now I’m on the hunt for cushions!
What is the coolest vintage piece in your house?
I know these are so trendy right now, but I love my Marcel Breuer Wassily chairs so much. I had always swooned over tan Wassily chairs, and these magically fell into my lap. I was trying to sell a pair of upholstered Restoration Hardware chairs and an interested buyer offered to trade me for them! It was fate. PS, my reclaimed wood coffee table in this photo is from Chairish!
Do you collect anything? What sparked your interest in collecting that item?
I love to collect cool (disposable) coasters from bars and restaurants. Sometimes I even frame them, like this one from my favorite cafe in Paris, La Palette. I’m a graphic designer at heart and always appreciate a good font or design, so I always notice pretty coasters!
