We’re back with a new guest tastemaker for some quick-fire questions and a mini-curation of some fab Chairish finds!
This week we are joined by artist/designer/Chairish Artist Collective member, Josh Young. Currently based in Chicago, Illinois, Josh made his way to the Windy City after stints in Milan to attend the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and then New York City working as a textile designer. It’s with a perspective from both the birthplace of Italian masters and the forefront of technology and design that he founded his studio, Josh Yöung Design House in 2009. Since then, Josh, a self-proclaimed “minimal-maximalist” has been creating his signature collections of old-meets-new inspired artwork, including his line of modernist portraits that keep flying off the virtual Chairish shelves! Lucky for us, Josh shared a few of his favorite Chairish picks and filled us in on what’s next for his Design House!
Last show you binge watched?
Downton Abbey. For the second time. It’s such a great show and without a doubt, one of my all-time favorites. The music, costumes, production design and the characters themselves are all so captivating, and I just think it will always remain a classic.
Coolest vintage piece in your house?
Last fall I came across a beautiful antique French dresser with the most elegant detailing on the front drawers. It’s truly a showstopper and such a unique piece. I added the dresser to a corner of our living room and turned the top of it into a minibar. I converted the drawers so that they hold our fine silverware, china, and linens for entertaining. It turned out so chic but also very practical.
Where’s next on your travel bucket list?
Going back to Milan this upcoming fall for my 30th. I lived there from the time I was 19 to 25 and haven’t been back since. That city will always have my heart, and it has shaped me into the artist I am today. I’ve missed it so much and can’t wait to be back.
Most memorable career moment you’ve had so far?
Fortunately, there have been so many just within the last year alone, and I’m so equally appreciative for all of them. Features in MyDomaine, O, The Oprah Magazine, Domino, The Maryn and Vogue all the way to being commissioned by designers and firms like Nate Berkus Associates; this past year has been incredible for my studio. The one thing I am most excited about though is a collaboration on a furniture line I’m currently working on with one of my favorite brands. Can’t wait to share!
