When someone was a Fashion Director at magazines such as Elle, Jane and Allure, you know they must have some serious style chops. So you can understand our excitement when respected fashion gal, Heather Hogan Roberts, joined Chairish as a seller of restyled vintage goods. *cue happy dance* After working in the magazine industry for nearly 12 years, Heather decided to take the leap and launched Ivy and Vine, focusing on what she truly loves: design and home renovation. Lucky us!
With Heather’s current Southern residence and her classic New England roots, Ivy and Vine has a unique aesthetic unlike any other. Heather ‘restyles’ classic antique pieces for colorful, modern living. “I like taking a furnishing that was stylish in its time (be it 30 years ago or 100 years ago) and re-working it to something that makes a statement today.” Heather says. And these pieces are proof that this gal knows what she’s doing.
Heather is not afraid to explore far and wide for hidden gems. She says, “Even the items that are in a dark corner are often the diamonds in the rough.” Whether it be stopping by every single antique mall in any state or a family trip to the beach, Heather always has her eye out. The most important qualities to look for when shopping for a piece? Heather says, “It has to have the best proportions or bare bones, can work in a space that she’s designing, and can be brought to life with new paint and/or fabric.”
Which brings us to our next point… the lady is a serious pattern pro. Maybe it’s all the years spent eyeing the gorgeous textiles in the fashion industry that inspires Heather to use some seriously bold colors and fabrics, and with much aplomb. For the rest of us who may not be so pattern savvy, Heather advises us to introduce one pattern and work the rest of the room around it, to not let it overpower the space. Noted!
This bold and punchy room was inspired by Heather’s trip to Round Hill, Jamaica.
