Where Insiders Source Their Favorite Flowers

Photo of floral arrangement with white and orange flowers and green leaves

Every month, we leaf through the pages of our favorite decor magazines and find ourselves wondering about all the magical style elements that make these spaces feel so very photoshoot-ready – and how we might incorporate them into our own homes. Whether a space is dreamy and bohemian, or prim, proper and trad, there’s one thing across the board that makes them picture perfect: beautiful flowers.

We decided to go straight to the experts to find out where they source all of these gorgeous flowers for shoot days. Read on below to get top interior designers’ recommendations for the most beautiful bouquets in your city!

NYC: Putnam & Putnam

It’s no surprise that A-list designer James Huniford, whose handsome interiors are rich in texture and layers, sources his flowers from one of New York’s most fashionable florists: Putnam & Putnam. These florals have that organic and ethereal vibe, but are also distinctly full, bold and rich in color (we’re in love with their homage to classic still life oil paintings). Founders Mike and Darroch Putnam share daily snaps of their insanely gorgeous designs on their Instagram feed, and we (along with ~260k other followers) could scroll and ogle at their work forever.

Los Angeles: Moon Canyon

Kate Driver, founder of Los Angeles-based West Haddon Hall, brings an effortless beauty and functionality to every one of her designs: think a no-fuss butterfly chair set against a stunning floral wallpaper. Kate’s go-to florist in LA, Moon Canyon, is the perfect complement to her subtly bohemian interiors. Moon Canyon’s look is very wabi sabi and oh-so dreamy: if you love a more organic look when it comes to floral design, you’ll fall in love with these artfully arranged ranunculus, foxglove and magnolia branch masterpieces.

Los Angeles: Bloom & Plume

Los Angeles has way too many beautiful blooms for us to pick just one florist. Trendsetting designer Mat Sanders of Consort Design tipped us off to Bloom and Plume, who create such stunningly artistic floral designs, we wish they’d last forever. We’ll happily resign ourselves to awaiting each of founder Maurice Harris’s posts on Instagram, where he shares his highly art-directed designs, often with beautiful prose and provoking thoughts.

San Francisco: Farmgirl Flowers

You’ve likely seen the signature burlap wrapped bouquets by Farmgirl Flowers out in the wild: either online, or bursting from the baskets of one of their San Francisco bike messengers. Designer Susan Greenleaf is known to create wow-worthy spaces, so it’s no surprise these dramatic and beautiful bouquets are her favorites in the city.

Boston: Pollen Floral Design

We are always inspired by Kate Maloney Albiani of Boston-based design firm KMID: her work is always bursting with color, well-proportioned pattern and a touch of whimsy. Kate’s local go-to florist, Pollen Floral Design, creates gorgeous works, rich in color to celebrate every season in New England. Perfect powder pink peonies in spring? Check. Dusty rose, orange and red roses to ring in fall? Only the best.
