If you have an 8-foot table you should be able to comfortably accommodate 8 people by seating 4 on each side. Ideally, each guest should be allotted 2 feet of space. If your guest list is running long, you should be able to seat an additional person at each end of the table, upping your total guest count to 10.
Following the 2 foot rule, you can surmise that a 6-foot table is capable of accommodating 8 guests in total. Likewise, a 4-foot table should be able to host6 guests.
If your goal is to seat more guests rather than less, it can be worthwhile to make note of your dining tables’ leg configuration. Some designs such as trestle dining tables have substantial legs that can obstruct your ability to seat people all the way around the table. When looking to avoid potential seating blunders, pedestal tables can be a safe bet. Since a pedestal generally resides squarely under a table’s base, it is less likely to infringe upon seating set-ups.
