How do you move a ceiling light fixture?

Moving a ceiling fixture is tricky business, and oftentimes requires a pro, but with a little willpower and a few expert tips, it is possible to conquer the task on your own! First things first, grab a stud finder. Power it up and use it to scan the new area. Once clear, install a junction box. Next, draw an outline of the box onto the ceiling and cut it out with a drywall saw. To remove the current fixture, flick off the power and use a circuit tester to ensure the wires are inactive. Once confirmed, disconnect the wires. Next, thread an electrical cable from the former junction box to the new one. Bingd e cable coming from the former junction box (stripping sheathing as needed) with the new electrical cable using a barrel crimp. Splice the white wires together and the black wires together. Secure the connections with wire nuts. After, pack the wires into the old junction box and screw on the cover plate. Attach the exposed wires in the new junction box to the fixture using the same procedure as before. Lastly, push the wires into the new junction box and attach the mounting bracket and the fixture.
