How do you determine the age of a Howard Miller clock
1. Check for a stamped date.
- While stamped dates tend to be a rarity among these top-notch tickers, some do bear their date of manufacture. Before launching into a more involved investigative process, be sure to do a once-over just in case.
2. Check for a serial number and model in one of three locations.
- The location of model and serial numbers varies among these timepieces, so it can be wise to check multiple areas of your clock when attempting to pin down either number. Generally, Howard Miller clocks showcase serials and model numbers in one of three locations:
- On a label affixed to the back of the clock
- On a foil label stuck to the interior of the front door
- Engraved near the center face of the clock dial (clock-wise tidbit: occasionally, it can be hidden beneath the bezel).
3. Do some follow-up investigative work.
- While neither number will hand out the year of production on a silver platter, it can give a general gauge and provide invaluable context to an appraiser, who should be able to hand down a fairly accurate assessment of your timepiece’s exact production date.
