What’s The Difference between and Print and a Lithograph?

A print is generally a high-resolution copy of an artwork. Typically, a print is created by transferring an original image onto another surface (usually paper) using a manual or digital process. There are a variety of different ways prints can be produced manually. These methods include lithographs, woodcuts, etchings, and screen prints. Each of these produces prints of different resolutions and qualities.

A lithograph is generally a print produced by more primitive means.

Typically, a lithograph is made by drawing an image directly onto a flat, hard surface such as a stone or metal plate using a grease-based material like a crayon or pencil. Next, the plate is washed with water and pressed onto paper, transferring the image to the paper in the process. Since the original image is drawn directly onto the plate, each print made by the lithograph plate will be an exact copy of the original.

Lithography is a printing process that creates quality prints with accurate details and colors. It is frequently used for printing books and posters.
