Typically, a lithograph is made by drawing an image directly onto a flat, hard surface such as a stone or metal plate using a grease-based material like a crayon or pencil. Next, the plate is washed with water and pressed onto paper, transferring the image to the paper in the process. Since the original image is drawn directly onto the plate, each print made by the lithograph plate will be an exact copy of the original.
