What are the most common bed sizes?
The most common bed sizes (progressing from smallest to largest in terms of width) are twins, fulls (also known as “doubles”), queens, California Kings, and Kings (also known as “Eastern kings”). Commercially speaking, the most popular size mattress for consumers to purchase is the queen. Queen mattresses are ideal for sleeping two people and are usually intended for full-size bedrooms as opposed to kids’ rooms. For kids’ rooms, the twin mattress tends to be the most popular size, followed by the full. It’s worth noting that there is a bed known as the twin XL. The twin XL features a longer length (5″ longer to be exact) than the standard twin bed, making it ideal for teens and college students. When deciding what size bed is best for you, it is worth taking stock of who will be using the bed, how frequently they will be using it, and the sleeping preferences of any regular occupants. Consider the dimensions of your room as well, keeping in mind that the average American can expect to move 12 times within their lifetime!
