What’s the Difference Between Art Prints and Posters?

Both art prints and posters are types of art reproductions. Posters tend to be more casual in nature, while art prints are generally more elevated.

An art print is a high-quality reproduction of an original piece of artwork. Art prints can be created using a variety of printing techniques, including giclée or lithography. Adding to their prestige, art prints are typically produced in limited quantities and are often signed and numbered by the artist. They are designed to be long-lasting and are made with archival-quality materials, such as acid-free paper and pigment-based inks. As a result, art prints are often more expensive than posters.

Posters are generally mass-produced printed images. Historically, they were used for advertising and were not meant to last long. As a result, they were printed on lower-quality paper. Nowadays, most posters are printed using digital printing techniques, making them far less expensive than art prints. Today, art posters are common as are movie and band posters.
