Cloisonné is a decorative process in which enamel is applied to metal objects, like jewelry or vases, to create eye-catching designs. The value of a particular cloisonné item depends on multiple factors, such as its age, condition, rarity, and artistry.

Antique cloisonné items can be incredibly valuable, especially if they are in excellent condition and possess a unique or rare design. As an example, a cloisonné vase dating to the Qing dynasty (1644-1912) could be worth several thousand dollars.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, newer cloisonné items may not be as valuable. (Doubly true if the item is mass-produced or showcases a more generic design.) Generally speaking, the value of a cloisonné piece is influenced by the market demand for the item, as well as its aesthetic and historical significance. If you’re interested in determining the value of a specific cloisonné item, chat with an expert, such as an antique dealer or appraiser.
