What’s the right size rug for an under-the-bed rug?
Generally speaking, you’ll want to use an 8 x 10 or 9 x 12 rug under a California king, king, queen, or full bed. These large-scale rugs will extend beyond the length and width of the bed, allowing a decent strip of the rug to be exposed on the sides and below the footboard. Most of the time, a rug will not be positioned squarely under a bed. More often, it will be offset so that its top edge is located a foot — or several feet — below the headboard.
It’s worth noting that the best rug size for queen bed will not necessarily be different from a king or even a full. The shortest end of an 8 x 10 rug is 96” wich is at least 8” longer than the largest bed dimensions on the market.
What’s the right style of rug for an under-the-bed rug?
Virtually any style of rug will work under a bed. From pattern-forward Persian rugs to minimalist sisal rugs, anything goes. That said, rugs with a heavy repeat can provide a more uniform look in a room, as opposed to, say, an abstract rug with a singular image that’s mostly obscured by a bed. Visually busy rugs such as Persian or Oriental rugs can also compete with a bed for attention. Especially if you have a statement bed, you may want to avoid rugs with a lot of intricate pattern.
Good options to consider, include rugs with minimal patterns such as Moroccan Beni Ourain rugs or braided sisal rugs. Abstract rugs with a heavy repeat can also be a suitable option. Opt for an abstract rug with a bit of shimmer to really dial up the drama in a bedroom.
