This week, we are joined by the supremely chic Kristen Nix, a Vogue alum who also put her stamp on the Neiman Marcus, posher-than-posh, design mag, The Book, before making the shift into the interior design world. Cutting her teeth under the always smashing J Randall Powers, Kristen eventually founded Kristen Nix Interiors, based in Austin, Texas. Since then, Kristen has earned a rep for some beyond divine interiors that intertwine vintage and modern with aplomb, while never forgoing practicality—no surprise when you consider Kristen is mom to three little fellas! Last show you binge watched?
Big Little Lies is a great escape after a long day. And I love how sassy Reese Witherspoon’s character is. She’s a clone of one of my best friends.
Coolest vintage piece in your house?
My original Eames chair that my dad bought in the 1960’s when he was a furniture rep for Herman Miller. It has the original rosewood, which they replaced with a wood veneer. It’s so comfortable and a classic. Before it was mine, it was my late sister’s, which makes it even more special to me.
Where’s next on your travel bucket list?
I’m dying to visit The Four Corners for a relaxing trip with my husband. I have my eye on staying at the Amangiri and hiking the Hoodoo Trail.
Ultimate style icon?
Grace Kelly. Does it get any more glamorous than that? I don’t think so.
Most memorable career moment you’ve had so far?
When my Houston Mid-Century home was featured in Domino when I was 7 1/2 months pregnant with twin boys. It was a great experience and got my mind off 103-degree days and how enormous my stomach was.
One talent you wish you had?
To sing and play the guitar. I want to be in an Indie rock band in my next life.
