We’re back with a new guest tastemaker for some quick-fire questions and a mini-curation of some fab Chairish finds!

This week we are joined by designer, Kari McIntosh.  Kari hasn’t always been creating her signature refined, modern interiors. In 2006 she was working a world away in the financial sector when she heard the call of interior design, and we’re so glad she did. Fast forward to today and Kari is a sought after Bay Area design leader at the helm of her eponymous firm, Kari McIntosh Design. Kari’s work has adorned the San Francisco Decorator Showcase two years running (the upcoming 2019 showcase will be her third) and she’s been featured in Traditional Home, HGTV Magazine, and Elle Decor, just to name a few.  We were thrilled to chat with Kari about a few of her favorites things and get the scoop on what we can expect to see at this year’s SF Decorator Showcase!

Coolest vintage piece in your house?
A pair of antique Syrian mother of pearl commodes from William Laman in Montecito. I found these 10 years ago and still adore them.

Where’s next on your travel bucket list?
I’m eyeing a trip to Marrakesh, Morocco. Hope to see the YSL Museum and Gardens, explore the souks, and hunt for glorious textiles and rugs.

Most memorable career moment you’ve had so far?
Participating in the SF Decorator Showcase has been memorable and transformational. I have attended the SF Showcase every year since 1999 and it’s been a great honor to participate the past three years. The SF Showcase is brimming with creativity and it raises more than $500,000 in scholarship funds EACH year so that students who would otherwise not be able to attend University High School have a chance to learn from this great institution. An unexpected attribute of participating has been the spirit of camaraderie that I have developed with fellow designers, strengthened each year. This year I am imagining the Butler’s Pantry and attached atrium as a Floral Cutting and Arranging room I have named “Fleurs Et Orangerie”. This year’s Showcase opens April 27!

What’s a current trend you hope doesn’t exist in 100 years?
KonMari. Don’t get me wrong, I love keeping things in order and I think a good purge is useful once a year, but I hate the idea of losing nostalgia. For example, I’m able to rock a circa 1992 Ralph Lauren Polo Bear Sweater because my mother hangs on to special pieces and taught me to do the same. All in moderation.
