Swedish & French Art Deco Club Chairs
Whereas traditional Art Deco club chairs often run the risk of feeling too bulky in modern interiors, Swedish and French Art Deco club chairs trend more sculptural. Identifiable by their compact forms and swooping bentwood arms, these club chairs are sensationally elegant. Their curved arms make them easy to mix with more modern, Danish-inspired designs as well as classic Art Deco waterfall-edge pieces.
Chinese Art Deco Rugs
Chinese Art Deco rugs are beloved for their unusual pairings of deep, saturated colors and asymmetrical botanical prints. While these rugs can be partnered with classic Art Deco furnishings, they’re also an excellent way to ground colorful Mid-Century Modern furnishings. (Think a cerulean blue rug grounding a red Womb chair or an amethyst-colored rug anchoring a Danish settee outfitted in a Tiffany blue-colored fabric.)
Machinist Art Deco
While many of us think of Art Deco as a very elaborate style, it also possessed a more industrialist side. Early Art Deco designers often merged the style with Bauhaus elements or machinist elements, resulting in pared-down chrome pieces. These chrome pieces — whether it’s a chrome bar cart or chrome torchiere lamp — can be easily merged with just about any decorative interior style.
1980s Art Deco Accents
One of the best ways to make Art Deco style feel more modern is to incorporate 1980s Art Deco revival pieces. The movement, which was spring-boarded by designers like Milo Baughman and Karl Springer, involved merging Art Deco elements with large, postmodern silhouettes. Mixing and matching authentic Art Deco pieces with Art Deco revival is fairly fool-proof, while also resulting in a room that feels expertly designed.
